Reid Residence Addition

The addition to a small townhouse in Old Town Alexandria first required approval of the city's Historic Review Board. The main goal of the project was to give the addition a feeling of spaciousness. The first floor kitchen doubles in size, providing a generous peninsula counter for prep, and doubling as a place for guests to informally congregate. The rear wall was opened with french doors and windows to promote a view to the garden.

On the second floor, a master bedroom reminiscent of a summer cottage with its vaulted bead-board ceiling allows abundant light through ribbons of windows. This character continues into the master bath with its farmhouse sinks and rolling barn door entrance.
